Welcome to “The Kennel at Calvaresi Winery.”
Our kennel is owned and operated in the same manner as our
award winning winery has for the past 30 years. We are dedicated to honesty,
integrity, and responsibility. The Kennel at Calvaresi Winery focuses strictly
on breeding only the versatile Hungarian Viszla and the Rhodesian Ridgeback,
also known as the Lion Dog.
Viszlas have been owned solely by the Hungarian hierarchy
until recently, around the end of World War II, at which point they were near
the point of extinction. Lucky for us, a few Viszlas escaped to the United
States. Direct from Hungary, our two female Viszlas are the daughters of the
number one sire in Hungary and are the direct descendants of a long line of
champions. We will offer the well bred Viszla puppies at a fair price! Well
socialized with both people and dogs, the puppies will come to you paper trained
and in the beginning stages of crate training. Full-grown, Viszlas weigh between
45 and 65 pounds. Also known as the “Velcro dog,” Viszlas are dependent upon
their owners for love, affection, and loads of attention. Patience, dedication,
and a firm disciplinary hand are required for the Viszla owner.
We expect our first litter to arrive in the spring of 2011.
The mother will be our 2 year old female Zenga.
Rodesian Ridgebacks, known for keeping lions at bay for their
hunter companions, are quiet gentle giants. Intelligent and devoted, these dogs
truly love being around people. Like the Viszla, Rhodesian Ridgebacks require
firm and consistent discipline beginning in the puppy stages.
Presently, we have our first female Rhodesian Ridgeback
puppy, bred by Toby Kennels in Manchester, Pennsylvania. Owners Jane and John
Leiphart have been breeding champion Ridgebacks for more than 15 years.
According to plan, she will become a mother later in 2012. We will keep you
posted on her puppies when the time gets closer.
Please feel free to stop for a tour of the kennel or the
winery, any time.
With Puppy Love,
Tom and Debbie Calvaresi
